Governing Body Vacancies

GOVERNOR VACANCIES

Mill Green School are seeking two co-opted Governors to join the Governing Body of our wonderful Community Special School.

Although co-opted Governors are voluntary roles, you will be part of a friendly and supportive team of governors who contribute greatly to the continued growth and success of the school.

Governors play an important role as a member of the school Governing Body, supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership team in the strategic leadership of the school and holding school leaders to account for the success of the school. The term of office for a Parent or Local Authority Governor is four years and Governors are expected to attend one Full Governing Body meeting per term as well as attending school at least once per half-term to see plans in action, meet staff and young people and liaise with selected staff as a โ€˜linkโ€™ governor in a designated area. An induction and ongoing training and development is available for all Governors via St Helens Local Authority, The National Governance Association and internally, via Mill Green School.

Our Governors come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience but all share a common interest of wanting the best possible education and support for the young people who attend Mill Green School. Our Governing Body ensures that the school is being run well and our Governors use their mix of expertise to work with the Headteacher in setting the school vision and ethos, maintaining policies and ensuring the fiscal viability of the school.

In looking to fill our Governor vacancies, we are particularly interested in applications from people with business, legal, education and Special Needs, safeguarding or finance experience and also people who can occasionally visit the school during the day. Please do not be put off if you do not have these skills, however – what is more important is enthusiasm, interest and the willingness to learn.

If you would like to submit an application for our Co-opted Governor vacancy,ย  please arrange for your application form to be completed and returned the school office (millgreen@millgreen.org.uk) no later thanย 12pm onย Monday 2nd March 2026.

All applications will be considered by the Governing Body, with an appointment being made on the basis of the skills, experience and perspective the successful candidate is able to offer to the school. Included with the application form is a list of disqualifications that would, under school government regulations, prevent a person from being appointed as a school governor. Appointments are also subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
